Fruit & Flowers

Do you follow the traditional gifts for anniversaries? We do, although often with our own take; for example, the first year we decided “paper” meant plane tickets, so we flew to Paris. This past Friday marked 4 years married for my husband and me. We weren’t going to travel, so I was trying to come up with a thoughtful gift that showed how much the past 4 years have meant to me.

We decided on fruit and flowers was the traditional gift for this year, and I started brainstorming {translation: looking on pinterest}. I saw a picture of a fruit pie and it clicked immediately. My husband loves pie {even over cake!} especially mixed berry. I found Pretty Please Pies to custom make one in Hong Kong and my man couldn’t have been happier. It might be the best gift I have ever given him. {side note: this awesome baker made sure I had my pie for my anniversary, even as she was on her way to the hospital with appendicitis!}

This is how we celebrated our every day {or year, as the case may be}. What did you do for your 4th anniversary?

Annual Birthday Calendar

Do you use birthday calendars? I do. I have a big family, so transferring everyone’s special day to a new date book each year was quite a task. But these birthday calendars let you mark anniversaries, birthdays and other annual events — and they are accurate for years and years.

Even better? This one is free and printable. {click here to print!}

9th Letter Press

I gotta send some hometown love to the 9th Letter Press, a new stationery shop in Winter Park, FL {I got my business degree in this beautiful little city, and grew up not 10 minutes away}. Doing design and letterpress now– I can’t wait for them to open a storefront.

Think I will have to do some online ordering soon!

Happy Anniversary, My Love

Three years ago today my husband and I tied the knot. Some days it feels like yesterday and other it feels like so much more time has passed (maybe because I have known you more than half my life), but everyday has been an adventure.

From moving around Asia to moving around the U.S., you have been a fantastic partner. It’s always fun to plan, laugh and explore with you.

Even for our wedding day, you were my planning partner in crime.

And you are always by my side, supporting, assisting and encouraging.

I know that without you I couldn’t do all of the things I do. You are a wonderful husband. Thank you for the last 3 years– I’m looking forward to many more. xoxo

Ask-A-Planner

Next question is from Facebook– a thoughtful gift question. My favorite!

My mom eloped before Xmas last year and she and her new husband are having a “reception” for close friends and family. What kind of gift is appropriate? They are both hard to buy for because they have what they want and if they don’t they just go out and get it ;)

Ashley from Winter Park, FL

Hi  Ashley,

These are the hardest kind of people to shop for– kind of like husbands!

This is the perfect time for a personal, heartfelt gift. Does your mom have any pictures from her wedding that you can frame? Or a piece of fabric from her dress? Or a fun graphic design of the date? Unexpected framed items can really be wonderfully thoughtful.

My other idea is the kind of gift that she and her husband might enjoy as newlyweds– like a couples massage or something to keep the peace (we know that the newly married can stumble a bit in the first year in the transition). Maybe you can give them each jars and a pad of paper to fill with reasons that they love about the other one, to keep around in times of tension.

Good luck– and let me know what you decide on!  xoxo
