Party in an Art Gallery

This past weekend, I invited some friends to a private art gallery to learn more about Japanese prints. It’s a space that I love spending time, so I was thrilled to have the opportunity to share it. Even though the owner of the gallery hosted the event in her space, I couldn’t help but add an Event Lucky flair to it.

I sent the invites out via Paperless Post.

It was a hot and steamy Sunday, but perfect for light snacks in a cool gallery.

The owner of the gallery gave a great introduction to Japanese prints. It was so interesting– I was really into it!

Afterwards, the group talked and enjoyed the art! And everyone left with a Hello Kitty! cookie as a little reminder of their Japanese afternoon.

Urban Bright

I love these colorful and girly manhole covers from Japan. It’s a perfect mix of hard and soft, sweet and tough. Strong metal and bright colors create a perfect modern look. These are amazing inspiration for me. I love rooms decorated with these same elements. If this were a party theme, it would be my favorite one.  Urban bright, maybe?

A Gorgeous Dress for Life

I’m a big fan of commissioned art work to commemorate a day, or moment– or dress. My mom got us a gorgeous painting for our wedding day, and I recently had a piece done of the two of us for Christmas.

These beautiful, stylized paintings and sketches would be an awesome personalized gift for a bridal shower or wedding gift. I can imagine one hanging in a boudoir for many years to come.  Nice work, Diane Bronstein.

Trend Watch: Nail Tips

I’m not big on nail art {it’s time consuming and looks a bit tacky} even as I love bold colors. But this new trend of fun tips is really making me rethink my stance. It adds a classy bit of color and excitement to plain nails or a bit of design to fully painted ones. Either way, it’s a trend to try!

DIY Modern Gold Planters

I had so much fun with my gold barrettes last week that I knew I wanted to do more with gold paint. {The other items in our apartment should be on high alert!}

We got a bunch of planters during a visit to IKEA awhile back. They were only a few dollars each, so we stocked up with the idea that we would plant herbs and cat grass. We didn’t end up doing much of that, so our pots were looking forlorn and empty.

So I used some painters tape to create some designs on the pots…

And used the same trusty gold paint to create these beauties.

I didn’t have any flowers on hand, but I plan to fill these with a bouquet and use them as vases for my next dinner party. Just a few coats of gold paint really made these planters come to life. Not just for potted plants anymore!

Turkey: Integrated

I finally got around to putting all of our pictures together from our trip to Turkey in May {I know! }– and since a friend is going this fall, we got a chance to put together some tips as well. {Interested? Let me know.} Turkey had some amazing shopping {maybe I have a problem?} so I wanted to share with you some of our fun finds and how we are using them.

I showed you our bedspread–

Our Turkish towels {they dry so fast!}–

A ceramic bowl from the bazaar–

And, lastly, our painting. We try to buy a painting as our souvenir, whenever we travel. {We just got it framed!}

It was fun to mix in this ethnic look into our modern apartment. What do you think?  xoxo
