Bridal Shower Trends

Megan is having a classy, modern brunch thrown by her mother’s stylish friends, who are looking for some ideas.

These invitations are for multiple couples being showered, but you could switch it up to include the list of hostess. How nice to let the bride know all the people that support her at this exciting time! And if the shower is this summer,  wouldn’t  it be fun to host a coed crawfish broil?

I also like the idea of these ladies sending the bride into marriage {and the wedding} with everything she needs with a “Something Blue” party.

I’m not a big bloody mary fan, but this martini looks amazing. Whether its a bellinis or arnold palmers, this is the ideal modern bar — DIY, sleek and streamlined. {Does anyone know where this image is from?}

A big trend {and perfect for brunch!} is edible escort cards. These apple turnovers would be a great appetizer, too.

I hope this helps! xoxo

Ask-A-Planner

Our next question in the series. I hope you are enjoying this segment as much as I am!

Dear Sara,

I offered to throw a baby-shower for my sister-in-law– but I’m overwhelmed and don’t know where to start. Help!

Fonda from Birmingham, AL

Hi Fonda,

It’s so nice of you to host a party for your SIL– I bet she really appreciates you helping her to get all she needs for her growing family.

To get started, ask your SIL how many people she thinks she wants to invite. That will help you decide what kind of party you want to host. If the guest list is 10-15 people, maybe you want to host a meal at your home or at a restaurant. If it’s 20-30 people, look at a buffet or brunch. For 35-45 think about an indoor/outdoor party (I hope this is happening during a nice time of year!). Anymore guests than that (or if 35 people are too many for your smaller house or apartment) check out venues in your area, from community centers to gardens.

Thinking about your budget is also central to making big decisions. Deciding on how much you can spend will help you know what size and style party you will have. $300 won’t take you far in a venue outside of your home, but it might work for a brunch or tea party.

Lastly, don’t stress! Take a breathe and enjoy! If you have fun planning and at the party then no doubt your guests –and the guest of honor– will enjoy themselves too. xoxo

Ask-A-Planner

Our question this week was submitted on Facebook.

From Jen in Orlando:

What is the proper menu for a 2pm shower? Are shower/wedding favors still expected?

Hi Jen,

Such a good question!

I’m going to start with the second question first. Favors are never expected, or shouldn’t be. If you want to give favors, as a memento of the event, you should, especially if they are thoughtful and well conceived. But if you don’t want to do them (or can’t think of anything good!) you shouldn’t! Don’t have favors because they are “expected.” That’s not fun for you or your guests.

As for food– I think 2 pm is a great time for a party, as you aren’t held to any meal necessities. Finger foods are fun–dips, vegetables, sweets, nuts and a themed drink (both an alcoholic and non-alcoholic version) makes for a great causal party. If you can theme the food items all the better. For a wedding shower, wouldn’t it be fun to eat “knot” foods– pretzel or bread knots, cookies in the shape of knots, prosciutto tied into knots, bacon knotted around a shrimp, etc. You get the point. It makes for a fun challenge for you and enjoyable for your guests.

Good Luck! And send pictures!

Make A Mobile

…speaking of baby showers {like yesterday’s hotel room baby shower} these is a great activity for one, especially for those that don’t like games.Make a mobile to hang over the babies bed–pick up some different shape ornaments, and let guests go crazy with paint, markers, glitter, stickers. Sounds like a fun shower to me!

Traveling Baby Shower

When I throw parties to celebrate exciting moments in friends or families life, it is often when I am traveling. I have lived  in 5 cities in the last 8 years and thankfully have many close friends all over the world. Or, if I can’t be there to celebrate the actual event I want to do something special when we are together. So I am totally impressed at what these two ladies did for their roommate, who is having a baby, at a conference.

Did I mention they are in a hotel room?

Adorable, right? Inspiration for sure.

The Cutest Boy Shower Ever

I love, love, love this bow-tie shower for a mommy expecting a little boy. They thought of every detail!

That banner– made from diapers.

The guests played themed mad-lib games.

Naturally, they served bow-tie pasta.

For favors, guests got to wear a personal bow-tie, and got a cute little sack.

Well done! Loving this for some boy inspiration.

Shower Wear

I’m loving this sweet outfit from Flights of Fancy, perfect for a bridal shower or baby shower. Even me, a boycotter (is that a word?) of both pink and heels, thinks this looks is both feminine and fun, without being over the top girly. And nothing is over $100. What do you think?

No. 1: Navy Jersey Blazer from Boden ($59.00)
No. 2: Chateau Pink Pleated Skirt from Ruche ($43.99)
No. 3: Patent Nude Pumps from Jessica Simpson ($79.00)
No. 4: Striped Boatneck Tee from J. Crew ($39.50)

Any exciting plans this weekend? Have a great one! xoxo
