Outdoor Entertaining

We moved into our new apartment over the holidays and had our first guests this weekend! We invited a couple over for drinks, then we headed out to dinner in our neighborhood. Thankfully, even with a bit of chill in the air we were able to still enjoy our terrace for cocktails and snacks. We kept it simple, but I think it turned out beautiful and classy, which is just what we wanted.

We had champagne with pomegranate seeds, which added just the right touch of fun.

We chose salty snacks, the best accompaniment to sweet bubbly {not desserts, as it is often paired.} Popcorn and almonds were the perfect start to the evening before a Japanese dinner.

All and all a great time!

Gold Cocktails

I love gold {well documented by this blog} and happy hour is one of my favorite parts of the day. So I thought I would combine my two loves into a simple little party for a handful of friends.

Since happy hour is just a couple of hours, or a pre-drink before heading out, I kept it simple with 2 drinks {bubbly and bubbly + a mixer}, one main appetizer and nuts to snack. Nothing to heavy, but a little bit of protein to get through to dinner. I used this fun tissue paper from kate spade {you may recognize it from last weeks party!}  added a copper vase and pear, and a little bit of gold confetti. Gold signage and gold painted chinese take-away boxes {with treats for later} complete the look. I love the two little touches of turquoise that pop just a bit and keep the look from being too washed out.

What do you think? Would you come to my gold party? xoxo

Summer Drinks

To help cling on to the last moments of summer {as you know I am} I put together some of my favorite cocktails. Some from bars, some from my own kitchen, but all delicious. These drinks got me through the summer…and then some.

Margarita {tequila, fresh lime juice, simple syrup,triple sec, a dash of beer}

Glamourous @ the Mandarin Oriental {Bombay Sapphire Gin, Grand Marnier, Galliano,  rose syrup, fresh lemon juice}

Elderflower Spritzer@ Busboys & Poets {St. Germain, vodka, muddled strawberries and lemons, champagne}

Paloma {grapefruit soda, silver tequila, fresh lime juice}

Casual Cocktails

We had some friends come to visit us in Washington DC the other weekend. The night they flew in, we invited them over for cocktails to welcome them them to the city.

Since our friends came in a bit late, we kept it simple. We drank prosecco (bubbly is so festive!), ate some antipasto and, of course,  had something sweet.

It was a great way to catch up!

What do you do to welcome guests? xoxo

Beautiful Cocktail Instructions

I love a self service bar with  recipe instructions…makes both the hostess and the guest life easier!
