Virtual Birthday

This past Sunday my husband celebrated his birthday– without me. You guys know how important birthdays are to me (any chance to celebrate, I am in!), so it was hard to be away from him, as he is still in DC wrapping up his job.

I’d already sent his gift to him earlier in the week. But I needed something to make his day — his actual day– special. Being apart is hard, but being overseas makes it even harder. I was thinking about cupcakes when a friend mentioned she was picking some up after our lunch. I was in! Turns out they were any cupcakes, but the best cupcakes in Hong Kong.

I picked up 2– his favorite kind and one for me, got some birthday candles at the supermarket {I had to ask to find them. They weren’t near the baking and cake supplies, but with the stationery items…not sure I’ve figured that one out, but I’m glad I found them), and waited until the next evening {his AM} on the day of his birthday.

We were talking via google video chat, as we usually do. Thankfully, the computer camera is only so big, so I was able to prep everything before bringing it on screen.

I didn’t sing {because I have a terrible voice} but I did make him blow out the candle. I think he liked it, even if he didn’t taste the cupcake himself. {My mom called it a diet cupcake for this reason!}

I hope it made his day a little special, even though we couldn’t be together. {We will be for my birthday, thank goodness, which isn’t too far away!}

I haven’t {as of writing this} eaten his cupcake, but mine was amazing! My friend wasn’t kidding that these are the best in Hong Kong. From a place on Queens Road in Wanchai {near Star St} this little shop Sift offered this gem called S’mores–

Toasted marshmallow, chocolate ganache, chocolate cupcake with a graham crust. We will definitely be returning for my birthday.

Unicorn Rainbow Birthday Party- Part 1 {Decor}

I got up early so I could put together the photos from the big birthday party I organized the other weekend to celebrate Charlee turning 5 years old. {remember this planning post?}

These invites were designed by Three Little Monkeys Studio– she customized the colors and we bought the entire matching paper suite from her. I got the envelopes and extra jewels from paper source to give it that extra touch.

The room was bright with color–

These tables are the kids’ activity tables, with their unicorn horn hats, water and the first activity laid out.

The dessert table—

The cake, cupcakes, cake pops and cookies were made by Tiffany & Cake. The rest– my amazing husband, Christian.

The cherry blossoms were in bloom– perfectly in color, just for us.

The reading tent– with the loose balloons, which were the hit of the party.

Favor gift bags for the kids–

And a tray ready to take out to the kids and the unicorn…

More photos– and activities to come! xoxo

Impromptu Birthday Party

TODAY is my sweet husband’s birthday! Yea!

My mom came to visit last weekend, so we decided Sunday morning to have a little party for him. The only problem was that we were out all day and we wanted it to be a surprise. So we got some cupcakes, popped a bottle of champagne, and donned party hats. It was very festive!

My big party fail? We didn’t have any candles in the house! So I plan to have some for him to blow out tonight.

Happy Birthday, my sweet! I hope this coming year is full of success, joy and happiness for you. xoxo

The Best Vanilla Cupcake

It’s a holiday today for me, so I’ll just leave you with a recipe I stumbled on this weekend for the ultimate vanilla cupcake project. 50 bakers tried out this recipe and loved it. I definitely plan to try it— will you?

Check out the recipe here.

Have a good one! xoxo

Fun with Donuts

Maybe it’s the hurricane, or the earthquake, or both in one week— but I am thinking about donuts. Yummy fried dough goodness. There are so many great way to  incorporate them into a party.

Why pick donuts or a cake? How about a donut cake

Or donut cupcakes

Or how about donut kebobs

Or donuts as centerpieces

Or on the table for munching

And there are lots of ways to incorporate donuts into your late night snack…

With hot chocolate

Or with coffee

Or with a milk shooter

I think I need to find a donut now…
