You Can Take The Girl Out of the South…

Even though I live on the outside of the world and no longer anywhere near the South, my idea of grilling out includes burgers, baked beans and iced tea. It was a gorgeous day, sunny if a bit chilly, so we took advantage and indulged our roots.

Naturally, we started with some drinks– Arnold Palmers. A little iced tea, and a little lemonade, and a little vodka, if you like.

Since we had some young guests coming, I got some colored chalk to use on our stone tile terrace to keep them entertained.

Then, of course, the food! Hamburgers, my mom’s famous baked beans, layer salad, potato chips and brownies. What else could you ask for in a southern BBQ?!

Our plates–

Beans were still to come {don’t worry, Mom!}. Is was great fun, then we cuddled up and watched some Oscar movies. A great Saturday. xoxo

Outdoor Entertaining

We moved into our new apartment over the holidays and had our first guests this weekend! We invited a couple over for drinks, then we headed out to dinner in our neighborhood. Thankfully, even with a bit of chill in the air we were able to still enjoy our terrace for cocktails and snacks. We kept it simple, but I think it turned out beautiful and classy, which is just what we wanted.

We had champagne with pomegranate seeds, which added just the right touch of fun.

We chose salty snacks, the best accompaniment to sweet bubbly {not desserts, as it is often paired.} Popcorn and almonds were the perfect start to the evening before a Japanese dinner.

All and all a great time!

Ethereal Wedding

Happy New Year!! I hope your 2012 is starting off grand! I’m ready to jump right into it, are you?

My Baltimore bride used to be a dancer, and wants an ethereal wedding of organic, natural elements. Although the vision has changed a bit since the beginning, this is the inspiration board I put together for her when we started. I still find it quite beautiful.

{I made this quite awhile ago, and lost the sources of these images. If one is yours, and you would like credit, please let me know.}

Ice Cream Party

This ice cream party is perfect. Right size, right setting, and I love the ice cream cart with the driver who serves. Keeping the ice cream cold and trying not to make a mess is the hardest part of  a ice cream bar and this solves both problems! I wonder if they have an ice cream cart like this in DC….

Melanie also gives a list of what worked for the party, which I also love. Take look here.

New Years Celebration with Kids

I am loving this sweet New Years Party that is kid friendly from Hello Naomi. Don’t think we could manage an outdoor party with the crazy blizzard we got yesterday, but you all in warmer places could manage it! Or, as Birthday Girl suggests, a brunch on New Years Day for family. So sweet!

Happy New Year to you all!! I hope 2011 brings you everything you wish! xoxo EventLucky

Tee Pees

I remember when I went to the dentist as a kid, he had a tee pee in one of the rooms. I couldn’t wait for him to finish with my teeth so I could go play!

This tee pee just took me back to those fun days. This cool tee pee just brought those days of fun right back. How great would this be at a kids party– or every day in your backyard? And a great way to empty the scraps bin!

Outside Home Fun

Well, we didn’t quite get everything in order this weekend, but we got a lot done! So I am still in nesting mode. Anyone mind a little more home inspiration?

I love this chevron building in Los Angeles:

And a great idea for recycled wine bottles:

A fun way to enjoy even a small piece of outdoors:

And a way to bring the outdoors in:

Happy Monday!
