As I mentioned last week, we’ve moved to Hong Kong! I hope you don’t mind if I talk about my experiences through this transition a bit. I loved hearing about others experiences {such Oh Happy Day in Paris} and hope you might enjoy hearing about mine. Not too much though!! Regular event fun will not be lost. Promise.
I’m settling into life in Hong Kong, slowly but surely. Last week I had to let go of some of my expectations {sky high, of course} and the need for everything to be done yesterday. I was wound so tight that my back and neck were aching and not even yoga could get rid of it. Between not sleeping well {jet lag} and not always eating well {or eating too well!}, I was having a hard time coping.
But I got a massage {so reasonable here!}, followed by a long hot shower and it did wonders. Suddenly, I was so grateful for this amazing opportunity to be back in the city I love, spending time with dear friends I haven’t seen in years, and getting to know so many more. I’m starting to have fun, now that I feel a lot of the work is done. Sure, I still have lots to do, but I am excited by the possibilities and think about how awesome it will be to explore them.
I didn’t go to any official events last week– but this week will be different! There will be lots going on– and I can’t wait to share a Hong Kong Thanksgiving with you.
Here are some images from my Instagram that I thought you might enjoy. A bit of fun, a bit of settling in!
Image one: I finally added a bit of “me” to my serviced apartment. Yea! Now it’s a nice little nook to hang out.
Image two: Some cool benches at SCAD Hong Kong. Can I live there?
Image three: I just loved the renovation on this building. And it’s so Hong Kong to have a skyscraper in the background.
Image four: This is the most dressed up pisco sour I’ve ever had. And at a taco place.
Image five: My jewelry laid out everywhere wasn’t going to cut it. So I got a stationery tray. I want to add some velvet to the drawers to help things not move around, but this is totally working.
Image six: The only bowls my serviced flat came with is rice bowls. Cereal in rice bowls? Why not?
One of the biggest ways I can tell I’m settling in? I’m starting to think about decorating for the holidays… More on that to come!
I told you all that I was moving a couple of weeks ago— but I didn’t mention where or any of the other details that made it so hard– and so exciting! If you follow me on Twitter or Instagram, you might have already gathered this news, but I think it’s time to officially let the cat out of the bag.
A little back story first. I lived in Hong Kong about 5 years ago. I got really sick and was pretty wrecked, health wise. {this was the beginning of my dairy intolerance} I moved back to the US and slowly built my health back up, but it probably took a year before I recovered and learned to manage my new sensitivities. In those 5 years in the US I got engaged, married, moved to New York, my husband started and completed grad school, I got into {and loved} arts education, I started this blog, we moved to DC, and started planning events for some wonderful clients.
…But I always wanted to move back overseas. I loved my life in Hong Kong and the focus on life experiences rather than things. My husband and I always talked about moving again, but it never quite happened. After finishing a particularly tough job, I played with a couple of ideas of what was next. I travelled around {you may have noticed!} got some training, and tried to find something that would “stick.” I think I secretly knew what I wanted to do. So my husband and I talked– and we decided to move back to Hong Kong!
It was hard to sell all of our furniture {and my screen printer!}, pack up only our most valuable things, throw away tons, and say good bye {for a bit} to our friends and families. But we decided it was worth it to go after what we really wanted.
To be honest, I’m not sure how this move will effect this blog. I may not blog as often, or have many DIYs {until we start decorating our new apartment, anyway!}. But I do know events will always be a part of my life, a part of who I am, no matter where I am. I love sharing thoughts, ideas and tips with all of you, and getting your feedback. And I have loved my experience here, and this awesome community, and my fantastic readers, connecting with you all. Maybe you will be willing to go on this journey with me, as I find the next phase of Event Lucky?
In the meantime, I hope you’ll keep coming back. I’ll share my thoughts, stories and experiences — and of course, event inspirations! If there is anything you’d like to contribute or things you would like to see– I’d love to hear from you.
I’ve been on the road tons these days– a little fun, a little business, and lot of time on a plane. I’ve always loved travel themes, and it never seemed more appropriate than today.
I’m taking this Friday off, but I’ll be back next week with a new Ask-A-Planner. Have a great weekend!

I’m doing some planning of a different type right now, so please forgive me if I miss this week and next’s Ask-A-Planner. We will still have our regular Event Lucky posts during the week, but I’m going to take these 2 Fridays off. See you on the flip side!
All ciites from google images, other than Minneapolis, which is from my instagram.
My husband pointed out today that I’ve been trending towards Bohemian lately. My inner boho chic goddess is coming out, inspired by Turkey. This wedding had a lot going for it already with its vintage global look, but then this cute couple added a travel theme, and I was done. I fell in love immediately. {see more at the Rock n’ Roll Bride}
I finally got around to putting all of our pictures together from our trip to Turkey in May {I know! }– and since a friend is going this fall, we got a chance to put together some tips as well. {Interested? Let me know.} Turkey had some amazing shopping {maybe I have a problem?} so I wanted to share with you some of our fun finds and how we are using them.
I showed you our bedspread–
Our Turkish towels {they dry so fast!}–
A ceramic bowl from the bazaar–
And, lastly, our painting. We try to buy a painting as our souvenir, whenever we travel. {We just got it framed!}
It was fun to mix in this ethnic look into our modern apartment. What do you think? xoxo
Things you should know about me: I love to travel; I love stationery; and I love giving gifts. That should put you in the right frame of mind for these tiny cards.
They are the perfect size to go on little gifts {usually for our parents} that I get on my travels. I love how they have a card for every occasion…
{I can’t wait for the occasion to give this to someone!}
{These are kate spade-I can’t seem to find them anymore, sadly.}
I love maps as decoration. And a baby shower based on them is totally my thing– a welcome to the world theme party. This might be my new favorite. {via You Are My Fav}
