For the Love of Sprinkles

You guys know I’m into organizing nearly as much as I am into coordinating parties– and I loved these cute ideas for sorting all of your different sprinkles. If you are anything like me, some days they seem like they are taking over your cabinets!collage- sprinkles2

Which got me thinking of all of the fun things to do with sprinkles– some edible and some decorative— but all fun!

Whales Are The New Birds

Do you watch Portlandia? I’ve only watch a few episodes, but I laugh hysterical through them. They have a skit about the popularity of the hipster use of birds called “Put A Bird On It.

Well, Whales are the new birds. Expect to see these gentle giants everywhere.

Drip Paint Pots

It was so fun to paint the gold pots last week, I had to try another technique.

I used the same IKEA planter that I had on hand. I then flipped  this one opening side down, and sprayed the paint close to the pot to create the drip effect.

I love how the drips appear to defy gravity— it will look really great when I add some flowers or cat grass. And the yellow on the purple really pops, with a bit of a nod to the neon trend, making it a great statement piece for a centerpiece or at a party.

I might have to make some more of these!

Farmers Market Flowers: Milk Bottle

The other weekend when we were in NYC we stayed near the Flower Market. Naturally, I took advantage of the opportunity of being so close to Jamali Garden Center and stocked up a bit. I got a few fun things to share with you, that I put together with $6 of flowers from the farmers market.

First up is the milk bottle vase. These white flowers give a romantic, vintage look. {even with my modern vases in the background!}

I love how these flowers reflect the light!

Then I tried colored zinnias, and loved the modern shift.

Gorgeous, right?

What do you think of this vase 2 ways?

Modern Trend: Baby’s Breath

One of the bride’s I am working with for her October wedding booked a gorgeous modern space with views of Manhattan. She wants to add some vintage touches, and I think baby’s breath could be the way to go. Before you judge, take a look– used in large quantities and in modern shapes, it looks almost sparkly {like  stars} but still give an unpretentious, comfortable feeling.

Did I change your mind about baby’s breath? xoxo

Stuck?

I know I talk about washi tape all the time, but its such a fun product. It’s good for so many things. I’ve used on home projects {here and here} and event projects {herehere and here}, but I wanted to do a round up on some of the more creative uses of the tape. Some less obvious uses for tape.

How about to decorate and personalize vases:

Or to decorate furniture:

Or table numbers on top:

To decorate presents:

Or cards and tags:

Or, with school starting, use it to cover your books:

And– did you hear? They now have large size washi for covering the walls. OMG. My walls will never be the same.

Any other ideas? I’d love to hear them!

Creative Approaches to Decorating Vases

Centerpieces were a big sticking point while planning my wedding. My husband has very strong ideas about what they should look like– and, I, naturally had different ideas. Needless to say, we went through many prototypes, including many vessels for flowers.

Well, in the last year people have become even more creative, by adding elements to a simple vase.  No simple bows or ribbon edging here!

I love how this fabric rosette adds pop to this vase, and still looks modern.

And covering vases in matching fabric– an idea I never thought would have worked.  It looks great and can be used in so many ways, for all kinds of parties.

(If you really love this look, you can even incorporate some of the fabric into your invites. Check them out here.)

Or how about paper bags as vases? Sounds crazy, but could look great at a country casual event. Totally affordable and you can decorate them anyway you would like. (These are waxed lined, to manage any water.)

Would you try one of these trends? Or do you have an idea to add?

Have a great weekend! xoxo
