Fall is Fighting

You guys know I am a total summer girl. I’d wear tank tops year round if the seasons allowed it…but I have to admit that fall is doing it’s best to make me fall in love. The boots, the perfect sunny weather, and you know what? The best things always happen to me in the fall. Let’s hope this year keeps up the trend.

Some things I’m {starting} to love this fall…

Adorable syrup favors.

Vegan chocolate pots. Eat hot or cold.

Foxes are everywhere.

I love this not too serious take on fall colors.

Apple drinks. Of course.

Gorgeous flowers.

Drip Paint Pots

It was so fun to paint the gold pots last week, I had to try another technique.

I used the same IKEA planter that I had on hand. I then flipped  this one opening side down, and sprayed the paint close to the pot to create the drip effect.

I love how the drips appear to defy gravity— it will look really great when I add some flowers or cat grass. And the yellow on the purple really pops, with a bit of a nod to the neon trend, making it a great statement piece for a centerpiece or at a party.

I might have to make some more of these!

Summer Bedding

We’ve had the same duvet cover for years– longer, in fact, than we have had the bed. It was working ok for us, but with these 100+ degree days, I wanted something lighter.

Our bed, before:

In Turkey, I got a wonderfully huge blanket that would fit our king sized bed. So I decided to change things up a little.

I’m really liking the lighter look for summer. What do you think? xoxo

Sunny Accents

I really like yellow– it’s such a fun, cheerful color. I admit that I even have a yellow peasant top from Kmart that must be 10 years old, but don’t you know I get compliments every time I wear it. Right now I am loving little yellow accents. Just one little pop in an outfit is all is takes.

P.S. I bought my self one of these indulgences this weekend. Can you guess which one? xoxo

Indulge Me

I think I am getting a bit sentimental with all of the weddings– between my bride getting married a few weeks ago (more to come, I promise!), this wedding that reminds me of my own, and the two weddings I have on my mind, I’ve been thinking about my own wedding, 2.5 years ago. I shared bits and pieces when I first started this blog, but not in it’s entirety. In fact, I haven’t even looked at them recently, so I’m a bit curious to how well the style aged–if it did. Will you join me in a little reminiscing?

Somehow we didn’t get any shots of our invitations. My husband is a computer guy, and eco-conscious, so we did an email save-the-date and self printed our invites with soy and vegetable based inks. The RSVP card was a pull off post-card or they could go online. Not shown here are the yellow mum liners.

Now that I have started my blog, and discovered I love paper, would I have made the same choice? Hmm, I don’t know. It did make my husband happy though, so maybe. It is funny to see our old names now.

We were married March 15th, 2009 (the ides of March!) at the Davis Island Garden Club. I wanted to be near the water, but not a beach wedding (I didn’t want to be barefoot), so the Garden Club was the perfect location, on an island  in downtown Tampa. It was also in a central location between my family, part of my husband’s family and many of our friends. Not to mention the grounds are beautiful and required little decoration.

We held our ceremony in the round, and Jen was our awesome day of coordinator (I got to return the favor for her wedding!). One of the best parts of the day was my step-dad officiated the ceremony. He’s an awesome orator, and it made it that much more special.

Here’s our first look –I now love that it is so candid. That table in the corner?  That was our refreshment table. It was 80 degrees in FL (perfect for me, not for everyone),  so we offered guests drinks and fans prior to the ceremony. The programs were also on this table. While I really liked  our photographer, there are a few details that I wish we had documented. This table {and programs and invitations} are some of them. Examples of things that important to the bride (as I spent hours on these details) that I should have communicated to the photographer. oops. Something I do for my brides now.

{Side note: While watching reruns of Mad About You Jamie was also disappointed not to have every picture. Maybe every bride feels this way?}

Isn’t our bridal party fun? Just married:

Come back tomorrow for dinner, dancing and our surprise fireworks! xoxo

Dinner Party at Casa Madera

Has September been as busy for you as it has been for us? In a good way, of course! We started salsa dancing classes, been to a baseball game, went to a documentary viewing, book signings and had different groups of people over to our little apartment. And that is just the last week!

Even though it is officially fall this week, I am not feeling it. I am still in summer mode, and mourning the loss of the closing of the pool for the season. So I wasn’t into the pumpkin and fall colored decorations that were available for decorating our dinner party. I left it simple, white and a little bit of yellow, and let the food to do talking.

I got these funky flowers (official name, naturally) at the supermarket and arranged the vases (left over from our wedding, from IKEA) in a serpentine lay out.

A little yellow from the napkins as well…

My husband made the most amazing chicken. OMG– just looking at these pictures makes me salivate! Here’s the recipe.

With rice and beans, of course.

Our guests brought a great carrot salad with cilantro to add to the mix. So good.

For dessert, my man made baked churros, with dark chocolate dipping sauce. I didn’t want to deal with the smoke and smell of frying and this was a good alternative.  (I changed the napkins out too, of course).

All and all, a great meal with great friends. xoxo

Don’t forget to enter my give away for flowers!
